What is Eyelid Surgery (Blepharoplasty)?
The eyes are the windows to a person’s emotions and how people usually see us forms their perception of our personalities. There are some people who are often mistaken as sad, angry, or older than their age because of their sagging eyelids. This is the reason why most of our patients consider getting an eyelid surgery so that they can achieve a more open, refreshed, and youthful appearance. An eyelid surgery or blepharoplasty performed in our office is perfect in removing the excess fat and sagging skin in the upper eyelids, minimize the appearance of bags under the eyes, and tighten the skin in the lower eyelid.
Am I a Candidate for Eyelid Surgery?
An eyelid surgery is the perfect treatment for those who want to enhance the appearance of their eyes through the repair of their eyelids which could have drooped as a normal result of the aging process or because of inherited traits.
An eyelid surgery can be an option to consider for patients who have problems in their upper eyelids. Eyelid surgery can remove excess skin that is obscuring the natural folds of the eyelids, excess skin that impairs vision, bulging in the eyelid that extends towards the nose, and to achieve a refreshed and alert appearance. An eyelid surgery can also address common concerns with the lower eyelids like excess skin and wrinkles, eye bags, dark circles, and depressions along the lower eyelid.
Eyelid Surgery Procedure
An eyelid surgery in our office starts with a consultation to determine if the patient is fit to undergo the procedure and to provide the patient with all the information that they need about the procedure. An eyelid surgery is typically done in combination with other cosmetic procedures like a brow lift and a face lift as part of a rejuvenation plan.
Dr. Timothy Jones may use different eyelid surgery techniques to achieve the results that you want:
- Upper eyelid blepharoplasty –excess fat, muscles, and skin is removed through an incision made within the natural fold of the patient’s upper eyelid.
- Skin approach for the lower eyelid blepharoplasty – works best if there is a lot of excess skin to be removed in the lower eyelid of the patient. The incision is made along the natural crease of the eyelid and excess fat, muscle, and skin is removed.
- Transconjunctival approach for the lower eyelid – an incision is made inside the eyelid to remove the excess fat and tissues. This however cannot remove any excess skin in the lower eyelid.
